Poonch, August 5, 2024: In a grand display of devotion and cultural heritage, the town of Poonch kicked off the annual Buddha Amarnath Yatra with a vibrant and spiritually enriching Trishul Yatra. The event, a significant prelude to the revered pilgrimage, attracted thousands of devotees and set the tone for the sacred journey ahead.
The Trishul Yatra commenced with a traditional Trishul Pujan ceremony at the Nav Grah Temple. Devotees gathered early in the morning to offer prayers and seek blessings for a peaceful and successful pilgrimage. The air was filled with spiritual fervor as participants performed rituals and chanted hymns in praise of Lord Shiva.
Following the ceremony, the procession began its journey from the Nav Grah Temple, winding its way through the historic and culturally rich streets of Poonch. The vibrant parade passed through notable landmarks including Ajote, Purani Poonch, Kha Khanawan, Jernally Mohalla, and Qila Bazar. Devotees, carrying tridents (trishul) adorned with flowers and flags, sang hymns and shouted slogans in devotion to Lord Shiva, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The Trishul Yatra culminated at the College Ground in Poonch, which has been designated as the base camp for the Buddha Amarnath Yatra. The ground was filled with participants, who came together in a spirited gathering to mark the successful conclusion of the procession.
Addressing the gathering, ADC Sandesh Sharma officially inaugurated the Buddha Amarnath Yatra. He highlighted the significance of the Trishul Yatra in setting the tone for the main pilgrimage and emphasized the event’s role in fostering a sense of spiritual unity and connection among the local community.
“The Buddha Amarnath Yatra is a revered pilgrimage that draws thousands of devotees each year. The Trishul Yatra is a vital part of this tradition, symbolizing the community’s devotion and reverence,” said ADC Sandesh Sharma.
Local resident Sanjay Raina expressed his pride in the event, noting, “The Trishul Yatra is a symbol of our rich cultural heritage and spiritual unity. It is heartening to see so many people come together to celebrate our traditions and seek blessings for the journey ahead.”
