Imphal, August 22 — The Manipur Police celebrated the remarkable achievements of Olympians Mirabai Chanu and Sahnglakpam Nilakanta Sharma in a special ceremony held on Wednesday.
The event, presided over by Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Singh, acknowledged the outstanding contributions of the two athletes to the nation’s sporting glory. Mirabai Chanu, a prominent weightlifter, and Sahnglakpam Nilakanta Sharma, a key member of the Indian hockey team, were both honored for their exceptional performances at the Paris Olympics.
Chanu, who is currently serving as an Additional Superintendent of Police in Manipur, represented India in weightlifting and brought pride to the nation with her performance. Sharma, who is employed with the Indian Railways, played a crucial role in the Indian hockey team’s success, contributing to their bronze medal win.
In his address, DGP Rajiv Singh praised both athletes for their dedication and achievements, stating, “Manipur Police is immensely proud of their accomplishments and contributions to the nation. We assure them of our full encouragement and support in their future endeavors.”
The ceremony was a testament to the state’s support for its sporting heroes and reflected the community’s appreciation for their hard work and success on the international stage.
