A significant meeting took place today at Raj Bhawan as a delegation from the Sikh Coordination Committee J&K, led by its patron Mahant Manjit Singh, Chief of Shiromani Dera Nangali Sahib, met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
During the meeting, Mahant Manjit Singh extended his gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor and the UT Administration for addressing longstanding issues faced by the Sikh community. A key highlight was the recent appointment of a member from the Sikh community to the J&K Public Service Commission, which was met with much appreciation.
The delegation presented a detailed charter of demands that underscored various concerns of the Sikh community residing in the Union Territory. Their demands included the inclusion of the eligible Sikh population in the Pahari ethnic group, the promotion of the Punjabi language, and the installation of a statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Ji in Srinagar.
Ajit Singh, Chairman of the Sikh Coordination Committee J&K and head of the All J&K Transport Welfare Association, also brought to the Lieutenant Governor’s attention several welfare issues affecting the transporters’ community.
The Lieutenant Governor assured the delegation that appropriate action would be taken to address the issues raised during the discussion.
In a related event, a separate delegation from Inner Wheel District 307 also met with the Lieutenant Governor to discuss their initiatives and concerns.
