Helicopter Services to Resume in Kedarnath with 25% Fare Discount

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced today that helicopter services to Kedarnath will recommence from Wednesday, offering pilgrims a 25% discount on fares. This decision comes as part of ongoing efforts to address the aftermath of recent heavy rains that caused significant damage to the Kedarnath trek route.

Key Updates:

Resumption of Helicopter Services: Starting Wednesday, helicopter services will resume, providing a crucial means of transport to Kedarnath. Pilgrims using this service will benefit from a 25% concession on the ticket fare, making access to the Himalayan temple more affordable.

Damage Assessment: During a review meeting in Rudraprayag, Chief Minister Dhami highlighted the extensive damage caused by landslides along the Kedarnath trek route. The route has been breached at 29 locations, affecting water, power, and telecommunication infrastructure.

Infrastructure Repair: Efforts are underway to repair the damaged infrastructure. An alternative route for pilgrims is being prepared, and new helipads are planned to facilitate smoother helicopter operations.

Ongoing Rescue Operations: Dhami acknowledged the collective efforts of the disaster management department, district administration, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local priests, and public representatives in the successful rescue operations.

Future Plans: The focus has shifted to resuming the yatra and restoring damaged infrastructure along the pilgrimage route. While rescue operations are nearing completion, significant work remains to ensure the safe continuation of the pilgrimage.

Statements:

Pushkar Singh Dhami: “The damage is extensive, with breaches at 29 locations due to landslides. However, thanks to the combined efforts of various agencies and individuals, we have managed to rescue a large number of people. We are now concentrating on repairing the infrastructure to resume the yatra. Helicopter services will start tomorrow with a 25% fare discount for pilgrims.”
